Hi, I'm Nick
Hi, I’m Nick Ross, the newest member of Cooper & O’Hara.
Where to begin? I’m actually not a trained photographer like my two partners here even though you can see me in some of their early NAIT photography assignments. I graduated from MacEwan University with a degree in Communication Studies and from there went into copywriting and advertising. I wrote throughout University, mostly for comedy websites like CollegeHumor and Funny Or Die and I knew when I graduated I waned to keep being just as creative. To me, writing a joke was no different than writing an ad: It’s all about knowing your audience.
I worked at several ad agencies and businesses within marketing and communication departments specializing in traditional and digital ad copy, creative writing, social media strategy, and email management. Understanding how to write for different audiences and different purposes has been the crux of my career. In my spare time, I’m a digital illustrator and movie buff. I’m self-taught and a frequent volunteer for Metro Cinema at the Garneau, helping design movie posters for their monthly screenings. I now design my own alternative movie posters for the films I love and recently did one for a short film that premiered at SXSW.
So why Cooper & O’Hara? As mentioned above, I’ve been in the gravitational pull of C&O since they first started. You can even see me helping out over a decade ago in the newspaper clipping below. More recently, I also helped write and assisted with the production of the Christmas 2020 video. I’ve always been invested in Cooper & O’Hara’s work and success and now that they are starting to grow, I couldn't be happier to be a part of the team. I’ll be bringing my sense of digital strategy and artistic creativity to the company and our shoots, while continuing the same quality and service that Cooper & O’Hara have built over the years.
Anyways, it’s nice to meet you all and can’t wait to work with you soon.
- Nick
